Geo9 appointed agent for German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) ReSens+
Sydney-based geoscience consultancy Geo9 has been appointed an international sales agent for the German Research Centre for Geosciences (Deutsches Geoforschungszentrum GFZ) ReSens+ services. The GFZ is part of the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam and is Germany’s national government research centre for solid Earth Sciences.
GFZ scientists have expertise in geodesy, geophysics, geology, mineralogy, geochemistry, physics, geomorphology, geobiosciences, mathematics and engineering. They are known for their deep knowledge and technological innovation for investigations of the structure, properties, history and dynamics of our planet. The aim of GFZ research is to develop solutions that maintain earth as a safe and supportive habitat.
In February, Geo9 Managing Director Maya Sydney visited GFZ scientists at the Telegrafenberg, Potsdam and at Oberpfaffenhofen in Bavaria to initiate the agreement. The headquarters of the GFZ is located on the Telegrafenberg in Potsdam, the site of the world’s first Astrophysical Observatory and one of the birthplaces of German meteorology.

The first service that Geo9 is launching in the Australasian region is the ReSens+ family of patented, advanced hyperspectral imaging solutions for mineral exploration, improved mine mapping, downhole analysis and tailings dams monitoring. The services include state of the art hyperspectral analysis from satellite, aerial, ground-based and laboratory data.
Geo9 is also working with data scientists at the GFZ on enhanced use and interpretation of GRACE satellite gravity data.
GRACE data is informative for broad scale analysis of terrestrial water storage including variations in groundwater storage over time. Maya adds “We have already completed our first GRACE project for a shire council in western NSW.
From the GRACE analysis, we were able to quickly show a historical trend in groundwater depletion that outstripped the rate of recharge in the area. The town water engineers were pleased with the strong and independent confirmation they received from the time-series satellite data analysis”.
